All dandruffs are of the same kind.
Why?
All dandruff are not of the same kind. There are 5 common types of dandruff:
1. Dry Skin Dandruff – This is the most common type of dandruff and occurs most often in winter. Due to cold weather and indoor heating, your skin can dry out, including the skin on your scalp.
2. Sebum Dandruff – This occurs due to buildup of sebum or oil on your scalp. The hair follicles produce too much oil that leads to clumping together of sebum and dead skin cells on the scalp.
3. Fungal Dandruff – This is caused by the fungus Malassezia, found on the skin of every human being. In a scalp with excess sebum, Malassezia is known to multiply as it grows in sebum.
4. Seborrheic Dermatitis – This is a severe form of oily skin dandruff. In addition to flakes, this can cause red scaly patches and itching.
5. Psoriasis Dandruff - An autoimmune condition where the skin cells grow too quickly, causing thick, scaly patches to form on the skin.
