Every interaction is different, and each one has its own unique context that needs to be remembered – especially when we're dealing with challenging situations. For example, when having a difficult conversation with someone, people tend to display a more rigid body language: crossed arms, stiff posture, pursed lips, furrowed brows, and so on. The signals we're sending to the person we're interacting with aren't good, and they're confrontational. They show we aren't willing to soothe things down and have a more amicable dialogue. However, by adopting kindness and warmth in our body language, we can convey the right message without making ourselves seem vulnerable or weak. Sure enough, it takes a good amount of practice to be able to project the right body language for each person by taking their context and personal filters into account, but it's a worthwhile effort at the end of the day.
