Why?

Cashiers need a healthy base of cash in the register to ensure their shift is covered. Otherwise, they might run out of change during their shift which results in hold-ups and angry customers. In short, the cashier should count the amount of money they have in the register before starting their shift. Different stores have different protocols for start-of-day balancing. Make sure to know and follow them appropriately.
