Why?

Body language expert and author Patti Wood says people should avoid "closed cues," such as crossing your arms over your chest, turning your torso away from someone while they are speaking, or placing objects between you and the person you're talking to. According to her, these cues send off signals that you're not interested in what's being said, or you're just partially engaged, or you're pretending to be involved. A better option is to orient your body toward the person you're interacting with, turn your face to them, and avoid positioning the rest of your body towards the exit. Source: Time, 2018.
