Field notes can’t be used in court.

Career development

Field notes can’t be used in court.
Why?
Even though field notes are just notes, they can still be used in court if needed and can even have more credibility since they are written more closely to the time of the incident. That's why it's essential they are legible and complete. If using abbreviations, ensure they are commonly used so that you will remember the meaning. It's also good to use all the space you can on the page, so you have fewer pages and less risk of losing important information about an incident. Lastly, be sure to avoid writing opinions and personal information, and store them in a safe place for at least five years.
