Getting customers to like you is essential for building rapport, but it may not be that easy. However, there are ways to enhance your likability when serving a customer in person. Check out these techniques to convey positive tone and body language:
✓Tone: a slightly higher pitch and some voice dynamics can make you sound friendlier.
✓Body language: smiling, making eye contact, and facing the customer directly with open body language conveys a positive message.
✓The 10 and 5 rule: picture an imaginary circle around you that’s 10-feet wide. Whenever a customer approaches this circle, give them a non-verbal greeting, such as a smile or a wave. Then picture another imaginary circle around you that’s 5-feet wide. Whenever a customer approaches this circle, give them a verbal greeting, such as “hi” or “good afternoon”. The 10 and 5 rule reminds you of the importance of being positive towards customers in all situations.
