Why?

It is entirely normal to probe for more information. Here we are talking about listening to someone actively, not to get all the attention to yourself. If you want to know something that didn't come up, you can ask the person doing the speech some questions and make your points. You can ask: → "How did you feel?" → "Do you think this is the best way to go for...?" These questions can provide you more information, and you can better understand the situation.
