Why?

When heat is added to a material/substance, the particles begin to move more quickly. The more energy (heat) is added, the quicker they move. Sometimes, this causes substances to change form. For example, when we heat water to a high enough temperature, it changes to gas (steam). Other times, the material remains in the same state of matter (solid, liquid or gas).
