Why?

Because we often eat the skin of fruits and vegetables, produce must be bagged together and separately from anything that could cause harm if ingested, such as toiletries, household cleaners, and raw meat. Since many produce items are fragile, to avoid damaging fleshy fruits and vegetables, it's best to bag them with the heaviest items, such as potatoes and melons, in the bottom of the bag and place soft items such as avocado, strawberries, bananas, and tomatoes, on top.
