Why?

Proteins and amino acids are responsible for managing our mood and how we behave. The amino acids are attached to the neurotransmitters, the chemical messengers that carry signals among neurons, affecting our mood, weight, attention, and sleep. When we eat pasta, we may feel sleepy, but when we eat chicken, we feel alert - that happens because of a protein-rich meal. The mix of substances in every food may stimulate brain cells to release mood-altering substances, like norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. But to get this access, we must have a varied diet to have this balanced amount of brain messengers. The most protein-rich foods are: • Lean meats; • Poultry; • Fish and seafood; • Eggs; • Dairy products; • Nuts and seeds; • Legumes; • Beans.
