Why?

According to Dr. James Levine, author of "Move a little, lose a lot," "Taking a break is good for your body, it's good for your mind, and it's good for productivity." Spending more than one hour sitting at your desk is too much, so taking a 10-minute break after working 50 minutes straight is excellent for refreshing your mind and getting things done more efficiently. So, every 50 minutes, stretch yourself, grab a bite to eat in the kitchen, get some sunlight on the balcony or in your backyard. Swedes take breaks seriously as it provenly increases their productivity and ensures a less stressful workday. Another study found that working for 52 minutes and resting for 17 make people more productive. That's the 52-17 minute rule. Even though some jobs may not allow such breaks, it is interesting to notice the pattern. Linnea Dunne, author of "Lagom: The Swedish Art of Balanced Living," agrees on the cons of working non-stop "We produce poor quality work and then feel unhappy, tired, and ineffective." The video below shows Dr. James Levine sharing his findings on how taking regular breaks during the workday improves our productivity on ABC News.
