Why?

If the business you work for decides to take legal action, how you handle the situation will play an important role. For that reason, be sure to always keep a record of all purchases, receipts, original bills, and returned checks. Having an organized cash desk is also relevant, as you may be required to present these documents to your manager or boss so they can file a claim in your state's small claims court. However, the amount of money that a commercial enterprise can ask for in small claims court varies in each state. The monetary limits are listed here: https://www.rocketlawyer.com/family-and-personal/general-legal-matters/lawsuits-and-dispute-resolution/legal-guide/small-claims-court-dollar-limits-by-state.
