Why?
To understand body language, it's essential to do more than read about it; you have to do lots of observation. Try noticing the non-verbal cues the people around you show daily – pay attention to your coworkers, manager, and boss. Try to understand why some of them seem friendly, and some don't – is it their eyebrows? Are they crossing their arms? –, why does your boss never seem to be confident? – is he fidgeting? Does he look down a lot?
However, observation always has to be joined by a good amount of empathy. Everyone has a background, personality, and specific details that make them who they are, and these traits also contribute to the way they move their bodies and show themselves to the world.
Sometimes, a person may seem rude or unapproachable because they constantly have their arms crossed, but this can be the way they've found to soothe their social anxiety at work, for example.
