What is the Extinction Method?
Why?
In this method you complete your bedtime routine like normal, then place your baby into the crib awake and leave the room. You don't go back into the room; you simply let your baby cry until they fall asleep on their own.
If you are consistent across naps and overnight, then your child should begin falling asleep on his/her own in around 3-4 days. It works quite quickly.
Make sure that the room is dark, the noise machine is on, and that your baby’s belly is full.
This method is not recommended for younger babies who are still feeding at night unless you have a specific time(s) set for when you will feed. In which case, you should go in only at the predetermined time(s) to change and feed your baby, and then place him/her back into the crib and leave the room.
This method is hard on the parents, but it works quickly.
