Why?

The zone of proximal development is the gap between the child’s ability to reach full understanding with guidance from a MKO and without. This is a fundamental part of Vygotsky’s theory of cognitive development. Throughout this zone you could use scaffolding to help the child reach a better understanding of the topic. Once the child has understood the topic, they no longer require any guidance from you as they have completed the development stages.
