What's a Service Dog?
Why?
According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service dogs are primarily working animals and are not considered pets.
They're individually trained dogs that take specific actions to assist a person with their disability whenever required. They also allow their handlers to have more independence and carry out daily tasks on their own.
Service dogs can perform many types of tasks, and they're all directly related to their owner's disability. There are:
• Guide dogs;
• Hearing dogs;
• Mobility dogs;
• Medical alert dogs;
• Psychiatric service dogs;
• Emotional support dogs.
