Of course, being honest and professional is vital. Whereas if you are distant, that might not help you bond with your customer or show empathy. Be real and transparent to the person you are talking to and invite the person to do the same. Put yourself in their shoes and focus on their needs, that enhance the humanized experience they expect to have when talking to another person. That reminds them you are a human being and that you go through problems just like them. It also helps show them, at times, there's just so much you can do. Eventually, it is not up to you to solve all their problems, but you do what you can.
