Why?

The checkout counter is the ideal place for merchandise products that are often bought on impulse. When customers get to the checkout, they have already (1) made the commitment to buy something, (2) hit their decision-making fatigue, and might be less inclined to say no to impulses. Some shoppers make impulse buys for a number of reasons. Some might buy without even realizing they are doing so. Others might be well-aware of their impulses but take one item or two in the spur of the moment anyway. Keep an eye out for which products you have to offer around you and engage customers in conversations that might lead to an upsell or cross-sell situation.
