In 2020, Harvard Business Review assessed 454 men and 366 women on their leadership effectiveness using their Extraordinary Leader 360-degree assessment, and women were rated more positively on 13 of the 19 competencies in the evaluation.
Actually, comparing the results with pre-pandemic studies, the gap between men and women leaders has grown, which could indicate that women tend to perform better in a crisis.
When employees are asked why they perceive their female leaders as more effective in a crisis, the emphasis is directed to interpersonal skills, and they usually say that their bosses "inspires and motivates," "communicates powerfully," are "collaborative," and cares about "relationship building."
